“A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
Do you have a lot of friends? Do you long for companionship? Proverbs 18:24 tells us the secret to having and keeping friends.
“A man who has friends must himself be friendly…”
The secret, therefore, is to be friendly; be who you long for and you will have friends. In fact, in Hebrew, it says that a man who has friends will “burst” with friends. People will befriend a friendly person.
The opposite is also true. If we are not friendly, we will lose what little friends we have. Our tendency is to blame others for our attitude. We think it’s their fault for not reaching out to us. But honestly, who wants to befriend an unfriendly person?
Unfriendliness can be a rude or flippant demeanor, but often enough, it is a person who isolates himself and won’t reach out to others, and therefore, they have no friends.
Friendships are great. Especially if you have a good friend. What if you can’t find that friend? You have acquaintances, but no one close?
“but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
According to John 15:12-17, Jesus calls us friends. He is our friend through every circumstance and in every situation. He is with us in the depths of despair and the heights of joy. He loves at all times.
When looking for friends, remember to be friendly, but also remember to keep the greatest Friend as your best friend. With Jesus as your friend, soon you will burst with many new friends.
