“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12, NKJV)

Peter had been asked by what name or authority he was preaching in. He told them it was the name of Jesus and said that there is salvation in no other name. We have to come to grips with this. Jesus is the only name that we can call upon in order to be saved. Try any other and see. Cry out, like the priests of Baal in 2 Kings 18:26, but – “But there was no voice; no one answered.” Cry out to the gods of the world – the Psalmist will tell you – “They have mouths, but they do not speak; Eyes they have, but they do not see; They have ears, but they do not hear; Nor is there any breath in their mouths. Those who make them are like them; So is everyone who trusts in them.” (Psalm 135:16–18, NKJV)

Salvation comes from Jesus – faith in him – not faith in anything. Things will let you down. People will let you down. In 1859 an acrobat named Monsieur Charles Blondin was the first person to cross Niagara Falls on a tight rope. After that, he crossed it so many times and was so at ease that he is reported to have brought a stove out on the line and made an omelette for the crowd. He was known to carry many things across the high-wire and that gained him notoriety for it.

The Great blondin, as he was called, was once reported to ask the crowd – “Do you think I can take this wheel-barrel across the falls?”
“Of course!” they all said.
“Do you think I could carry a man in the wheel-barrel?”
“Yes,” they shouted!
“Who wants to be first?” he said. The crowd was silent.

The Great Blondin could have easily fallen from the rope. But Jesus will never let you down. He is absolutely trustworthy. There is no other name, no other hope, no other character or nature that we could trust but Jesus. He died for your sins and He rose as an example of what will happen to us who believe.

Will you trust in Him? Anything else is just empty.
